Mrs Takata returned to Hawaii in 1937 she was an Okuden.
Note that the Japanese writing at the back, centre right is the Affirmations written by Haysashi.

From a certificate signed by Dr. Hayashi in Hawaii February 21. 1938.
| THIS IS TO CERTIFY that Mrs. Hawayo Takata, an American
citizen born in the Territory of Hawaii, after a course of study and training
in the Usui system of Reiki healing undertaken under my personal supervision
during a visit to Japan in 1935 and subsequently, has passed all the tests
and proved worthy and capable of administering the treatment and of conferring
the power of Reiki on others.
Therefore I, Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, by virtue of my authority as a Master of the Usui Reiki system of drugless healing, do hereby confer upon Mrs. Hawayo Takata the full power and authority to practice the Reiki system and to impart to others the secret knowledge and the gift of healing under this system. 'MRS. HAWAYO TAKATA is hereby certified by me as a practitioner and Master of Dr. Usui's Reiki system of healing, at this time the only person in the United States authorized to confer similar powers on others and one of the thirteen fully qualified as a master of the profession.' Signed by me this 21st. day of February, 1938, in the city and county of Honolulu, territory of Hawaii. (Signed) Chujiro Hayashi. |

The certificate is witnessed and also has a form of witness/registration from the Notary Public, First Judicial Circuit, Territory of Hawaii. View Copy of Original Certificate
In Japan the only registration seen for Mrs. Takata is as an OKU-DEN that is a Level Two by today's standards.
This, presumably, is because she was attuned to Master Level in Hawaii.
Excerpt from Hawayo Takata's diary May 1. 1938.
Mr. Hayashi has granted to bestow on me the secret of Shinje Den - Kokiyu Ho x Leiji-Ho - the utmost secret in the Energy Science.

Some students have queried the use of the title 'Usui Shiki Reiki Ryoho' this title including the word 'Shiki' is only used by the Reiki Alliance and Western teachings, and may be the title used only by Hayashi.
Many reading this will find the title on certificates issued in the west.
Shiki means 'System' in English and was not used in the Usui teachings.

Meaning of "Reiki" Energy within oneself, when concentrated and applied to patient, will cure all ailments - "It is nature's greatest cure, which requires no drugs. It helps in all respects, human and animal life. In order to concentrate, one must purify one's thoughts in words, and to meditate to let true "energy" come out from within. It lies in the bottom of the stomach about 2 inches below the naval. Sit in a comfortable position, close your eyes, concentrate on our thought and relax. Close your hands together and wait for the sign. Kindly and gently apply the hands starting from head downward. The patient who is about to receive this treatment must purify one's (their) thoughts, feel comfortable, and (have) a desire to get well. One must not forget to feel grateful. Gratitude is a great cure for the mind. In all cases, the patient could be diagnosed just by the touch of (the) hand. |

Arjava Petter - 'Mr. C. Hayashi brought Reiki to Hawaii just before the second world war. His head student, Ms. H. Takata helped to spread Reiki throughout the USA and then onwards to Europe. It is said that before Ms. Takata's death she passed on the responsibilities to her granddaughter Phyllis L. Furumoto who founded the "Reiki Alliance" . In the West, Mr. Hayashi, Ms. Takata and Ms. Furumoto are called Reiki Grand Master, but no such title was ever given to them.
